Artwork File Requirements: What Makes a Design Print-Ready?

Quick Answer

Print-ready artwork is typically a high-resolution PNG with a transparent background, or a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG) that can scale to any size without losing quality. Don't have files like that? We can clean up or recreate your artwork from whatever you have.

Best File Types

Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) — ideal because they scale to any size with zero quality loss, which matters if your design needs to print small on a hat and large on a hoodie.

High-resolution PNG — works well for photo-based or complex full-color designs, especially for DTF. A transparent background is important so the design isn't printed with an unwanted white box around it.

What to Avoid

Low-resolution images pulled from websites or social media — these often look blurry or pixelated once enlarged for printing. JPEGs with a white or colored background where you need a transparent one. Screenshots, which are almost always too low-resolution for clean printing.

Don't Have Print-Ready Artwork? No Problem.

A huge number of our customers don't come to us with finished files — they come with a rough sketch, a low-res logo, a reference photo, or just an idea in their head. Our team can vectorize, clean up, or design artwork from scratch so it's ready to print cleanly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my logo is blurry or low-resolution?

We can vectorize and clean it up so it prints sharp at any size.

Do you accept hand-drawn sketches?

Yes — send us a photo of your sketch and we can turn it into a clean, print-ready design.

What's the difference between a vector file and a regular image?

A vector file is built from math-based shapes, so it can scale to any size with no quality loss. A regular image (like a PNG or JPEG) is made of pixels and can get blurry when enlarged too much.

Is there an extra cost for artwork cleanup?

It depends on how much work is needed — contact us with what you have and we'll let you know.
