Most customers never see what happens between sending us a logo and picking up a finished order. Here's the honest, behind-the-scenes version of how Roxbury Custom Vinyl actually gets your custom apparel from an idea to something you can hold in your hands.
Step One: The File Gets Checked
This is the stage where most delays get caught early instead of after printing — and it's one of the places where working with a real local shop pays off. A lot of print operations run your file through automated software with no human review, which means a low-resolution logo or a file with the wrong color mode sails straight through to production and comes out looking wrong. We check every file by eye before it ever touches a machine. If something's off — resolution, background, sizing — we catch it here and reach out to you directly, rather than printing it anyway and hoping you don't notice.
Step Two: We Confirm the Method
Based on your design, fabric, and quantity, we settle on DTF, vinyl, or sublimation — whichever fits the order best. This isn't a one-size-fits-all decision made by whichever machine happens to be free that day. A detailed full-color logo, a simple one-color number, and an all-over sublimated pattern each call for a different approach, and we've built our shop to run all three so you're never forced into the wrong one just because it's what we happen to offer.
Step Three: Production
Production looks different depending on the method — film printer and heat press for DTF, cutting and weeding for vinyl, or dye transfer for sublimation. In every case, the settings (temperature, pressure, timing) are dialed in specifically for the fabric and film being used that day, not left on a generic default. That attention to detail is exactly why our prints hold up wash after wash instead of cracking or peeling early.
Step Four: Quality Check
Every order gets a look-over before it's called finished — alignment, color accuracy, adhesion, and overall finish. If something doesn't meet our own standard, it gets redone before it ever reaches you. We'd rather catch a problem ourselves than have you catch it after you've already opened the package.
Step Five: It's Ready
Folded, packaged, and either ready for pickup right here in Roxbury or headed out for delivery or nationwide shipping. The whole process usually takes just 2-5 business days for a standard order, start to finish — and if you're in a time crunch, rush service can move things along even faster.
Why We Let You See Behind the Curtain
Most printers won't walk you through their process, because most printers are running high volume with as little human involvement as possible. We're the opposite. Scott, Jean, and Emily are personally hands-on with the orders that come through this shop — not because we can't scale up, but because we believe the personal attention is exactly what makes the final product better. When you order from Roxbury Custom Vinyl, you're not a ticket number in a queue. You're a neighbor getting a shirt made by people who actually care whether it looks right when it lands in your hands.
