Why DTF Printing Is More Cost-Effective for Your Business

Why DTF Printing Is More Cost-Effective for Your Business — Roxbury Custom Vinyl, Roxbury Township, NJ

If you're ordering custom shirts for your business, the method you choose has a direct effect on your total cost — and for most business orders, DTF (Direct-to-Film) comes out ahead. Here's the plain-English breakdown of why.

No Per-Color Setup Fees

Traditional bulk printing methods charge a setup fee for every color in your design, because each color needs its own physical setup before a single shirt gets printed. That cost gets spread across your order — which works fine at very high volumes, but adds real expense to small and mid-sized business orders. DTF skips that entirely. Your design prints as one full-color image, whether it has one color or fifteen, with no added setup cost per color.

No Minimum Order Required

Because there's no setup cost to spread across a large batch, DTF doesn't require a minimum order to make financial sense. Need 5 staff shirts instead of 50? You pay the same fair per-shirt rate either way — you're not stuck ordering more than you actually need just to bring the cost down.

Full Color and Detail, Included

Gradients, shading, photo-realistic logos, multi-color branding — DTF handles all of it at the same cost as a simple one-color design. If your logo has any real detail to it, that's often where traditional methods get noticeably more expensive. With DTF, detail is free.

Works Across Fabric Types

DTF transfers apply cleanly to cotton, polyester, and blends alike, so a mixed order — say, cotton tees for some staff and performance polos for others — doesn't require switching methods or paying for two separate setups.

When Vinyl Still Makes Sense

To be fair, DTF isn't the right call for everything. If you just need a name or number added to the back of a jersey — a single bold color, no shading — vinyl can be a quick, simple option for that specific case. But for full logos, branded apparel, and anything with real color or detail, DTF is almost always the more cost-effective choice.

The Bottom Line

For most business apparel orders — staff shirts, branded polos, event gear — DTF gets you full-color, detailed printing without setup fees or minimums working against your budget. Send us your logo and order size, and we'll show you exactly what it costs.
